Jeffrey Gutierrez serves as the vice president and assistant general counsel for Semtech (International), the Swiss subsidiary of Semtech Corporation, a NASDQ-listed (SMTC) supplier of analogue and mixed-signal semiconductors (collectively, “Semtech”). After almost a decade in private practice in the US, Gutierrez joined Semtech’s Swiss operations in 2006 as corporate counsel-international operations to set up the first legal department in Europe for the Semtech Group. In this role he was responsible for all legal matters for Semtech’s entities in Europe and Asia, which included ensuring compliance with corporate governance requirements in each jurisdiction, and negotiating and executing commercial and licensing agreements worldwide. This role saw him serve as company secretary and managing director in several European entities of Semtech, and he dually served as supervisor in two entities in China, overseeing and directing the legal aspect of setting up entities in China and Hong Kong. He later assumed the position as senior corporate attorney and in March 2015 assumed his current role as Vice president and assistant general counsel. In early 2015, he played an instrumental role in setting up the legal framework of the LoRa Alliance, a non-profit organisation dedicated to promoting the interoperability and standardisation of low-power wide area network (LPWAN) technologies to drive implementation of the Internet of Things (IoT). Since 2015, he has dedicated a significant amount of his time handling IP legal matters involving the IoT, GDPR compliance for companies and products, hardware and cloud computing contracting related to the LoRa radio frequency LPWAN technology of Semtech, and legal issues involving standard setting alliances.
