Nicolas Burgener
Group chief legal officer | Audemars Piguet
Chief legal officer and secretary of the board | Audemars Piguet
As group head of the legal function at watch-making manufacturer, Audemars Pigeut, Nicolas Burgener manages and supervises the group legal affairs department of seven lawyers. Burgener has shown remarkable cross-practice competencies and in-depth knowledge of relevant fields and issues, allowing him to anticipate issues and exposures internationally, something which is critical given the global nature of the Audemars Piguet’s business. Seen by peers as an extremely reliable lawyer and ‘one of the most talented legal counsel’ for an external lawyer to have as a client, he has been exceedingly praised by peers, with one nominator saying, ‘I have never met an in-house counsel who was at the same time as competent, as friendly, as good a mentor to his own team, and as conscious in the exercise of his responsibilities as Burgener. He is really “first class”’. His main areas of focus include mergers and acquisitions, corporate law, competition law, intellectual property, sponsoring, distribution, labour law and legal compliance, areas which nominators have cited he has displayed himself to be ‘highly knowledgable and competent, experienced, driven, business-oriented and efficient, collegiate, with very good judgement’. A recipient of many industry awards, Burgener won the 2018 European Counsel Award Commercial General (Individual of the Year).
