Barbara Schroeder de Castro Lopes possesses decades of diverse legal experience, gained from the Swiss federal government and judiciary and a leading Swiss law firm. For over five years, she has functioned as in-house counsel at the Roche headquarters in Basel, where she works in a fascinating environment that enables her to look into the future of medicine. She serves as a legal thought partner to the pharmaceutical business development group, which brings together internal expertise and external innovation to address unmet medical needs.

Barbara is an advocate for continuous learning and development; after over a decade as a legal professional and mother of two, she decided to take the Swiss bar exam and specialise in her current field. She regularly publishes on life sciences related topics and, together with Judith Schallnau, co-authored the first overview and practical guidance for life sciences law in Switzerland.

In 2021, Barbara was appointed as team leader for the legal pharma partnering team in Basel. She has the honour of serving a team of world-class attorneys: distinguished lawyers and top experts who are committed to consistently delivering the best service to the broader global team, their organisation, and patients. She is grateful for the support received from the organisation and the remarkably close interaction with her peers in the US who model legal excellence and servant leadership.
