What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

The major challenge that has impacted us is the regulatory tsunami in the information technology sector, including sweeping legislative acts in copyright, data protection and platform moderation This challenge has been compounded by an emerging techlash, increasing scrutiny from governmental institutions and growing litigation portfolios. The most challenging piece of legislation is likely the European Copyright Directive – specifically adverse gold plating in the implementation laws of different member states.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Introduction of legal intake mechanism for new litigious claims, incl. automated document creation, outside counsel notification and fact gathering section as well as tailor made legal tech software that automatically generates written submissions for certain types of litigation.

What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?

A successful in-house lawyer must be a quick thinker, be highly organised, and possess management and decision-making skills. It is also crucial for in-house lawyers in this industry to be able to work parallel to different work streams.
