What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?
The biggest challenge in the last year was not related to legal issues.
The corporation has a great appetite for applying and implementing various new technologies in the business. Advising on risks related to this is a great challenge, especially for the legal team, having to adapt to digital ways of addressing risks more structured in areas such as sanctions, privacy, competition law or contracting.
Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
One of the main innovations that improved the way the legal team works has been developing and implementing a chat bot that responds to trivial daily routine questions — a refreshing and innovative way to address basic client needs.
What would you say are the unique qualities required to be successful as an in-house lawyer in your industry?
Pharma is a sector based on science and sophisticated application of technology in very formalised processes. Therefore, one of the main qualities that will help to succeed in such an industry is the curiosity to understand the products and the science behind them.
