How do you approach managing legal aspects during periods of instability or crises, and how does your legal strategy align with the broader business strategy to ensure the organisation’s resilience?

During these periods of instability and crises, we prioritise risk identification and mitigation, crisis preparedness and solutions focused on a deep business understanding. We closely monitor regulatory and other external environment changes, and assess potential impacts on our operations. Proactive risk assessments and scenario planning enable us to anticipate challenges. With our colleagues in operations, information security, technology, HR and communications, we have also implemented robust crisis management protocols and contingency measures. Close collaboration with key internal business partners fosters a broad understanding of evolving business needs and challenges, allowing us to find impactful responses and solutions that address key risks while safeguarding reputation. By proactively identifying and mitigating risk and working on preparedness, we enhance organisational resilience, enabling Verisure to navigate uncertainties and crises effectively without impacting business results or reputation.

What emerging technologies do you see as having the most significant impact on the legal profession in the near future, and how do you stay updated on these developments?

Without a doubt, AI is the technology that will have a very significant impact on the legal profession in the near future.  Relevant AI tools include (i) generative AI tools designed to streamline repetitive tasks such as document review, contract creation and analysis and legal research, (ii) legal analytics enhanced by AI to provide predictions of case outcomes as well as optimisation of legal strategies, and (iii) regulatory monitoring and analysis AI tools to help businesses stay abreast of the surge in regulation.

Within the Verisure legal team, we adopt a proactive approach to keep pace with these advancements. We have developed a digital roadmap strategy covering all the mentioned areas, ensuring ongoing implementation and upgrades to effectively leverage the latest technologies. Additionally, we actively participate in industry forums such as IAPP and CLOC, get certified on AI regulation and application, invest in training and partner with companies like Microsoft and KPMG to remain at the forefront of emerging developments in the legal tech landscape and get support with their implementation.

How do you prioritise diversity and inclusion within your legal department, and what initiatives have you implemented to foster a more inclusive and equitable work environment?

We already have a strong gender balance at all levels of the Verisure legal team (with a slightly higher percentage of women, also within the group legal management team).  We are of 18 different nationalities, spanning four continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and South America).  We are, however, not complacent and are actively working on an action plan to further strengthen wellness in the workplace.
