Samim Ahmed Ranju is the regional general counsel, Europe, at Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, the Swiss subsidiary, and the European HO of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, India. As the head of legal, compliance, and data privacy, Samim is responsible for the Europe Generics Business of Dr. Reddy’s, which covers a significant part of Europe, including Germany, the UK, France, Italy, and Spain. Since April 2023, he has taken on additional responsibilities as the head of legal and compliance for Ukraine and Romania.

Samim believes in building a strong team by mentoring talented individuals and empowering them to grow as leaders and true business partners. Starting with just two resources in 2020, Samim now leads a team of nine lawyers and compliance professionals, with the team continuing to grow.

In his four years as the regional general counsel for Europe, Samim has effectively supported the European business, contributing to unprecedented growth in the region. Some of his key achievements include playing a pivotal role in integrating a medical cannabis start-up in Germany that was acquired by Dr. Reddy’s in 2022, implementing a contract lifecycle management tool in the region, establishing a robust compliance program in Europe from scratch, and facilitating the divestment of an R&D site in the Netherlands through handling tough works council negotiations. 

Prior to relocating to Europe, Samim served as the associate general counsel at Dr. Reddy’s India, where he implemented a highly complex statutory compliance monitoring tool that mapped 29,000 compliance line items across 40 sites throughout India. Currently, Samim and his team are focused on launching Dr. Reddy’s first medical device in Europe and setting up the e-commerce platform to sell the product.

Samim obtained his degree in law from the National University of Juridical Sciences, India. Prior to joining Dr. Reddy’s, he worked for General Electric Company (GE) in various capacities for eight years where he was recognised multiple times with awards and promotions. 

Outside of work, Samim enjoys spending quality time with his family, hiking, and going on road trips across Europe.
