Led by the widely-respected group general counsel, Felix Ehrat, the Novartis legal team has greatly improved the communications, government affairs and risk-related functions, and continue to drive the team toward excellence. Ehrat has particularly focused on talent development within his team and strives for the development of each associate through focused training of their managers. This has led the legal team to being praised and recognised as an integral part of the value chain at Novartis, a global healthcare provider based in Basel. When discussing the highlights of his role Ehrat says that it is ‘to have an impact in a rapidly changing company and industry, to lead an extremely dynamic legal department and the interaction with senior leadership and board of Novartis’. The legal team has recently handled a number of high profile cases and projects. Novartis recently revealed a US$1bn research centre in Shanghai as part of Novartis Institutes for BioMedical research, with hopes of encouraging local innovation in the pharmaceutical field. The team has been integral in ensuring the project was carried out smoothly and in line with local regulations.
