FIFA
Founded in 1904, the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) is the international governing body of association football and the umbrella organisation of its members, currently 211 national football associations. Emilio Garcia Silvero is the chief legal officer at FIFA, who joined in September 2018, after spending 12 years at UEFA. The legal department of FIFA is formed by talented lawyers who are able to advise the business on various legal, regulatory and disciplinary issues. Recently the team assisted FIFA on its landmark cooperation agreement to promote women’s football and develop school football in Africa with the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement, AFD). They also contributed to the organisation’s first-ever memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women), which will provide a strong framework for strengthening and further developing synergies between FIFA and UN Women.
