Oryx Energies
Oryx Energies sources, supplies, stores and distributes oil and gas products needed by consumers, businesses and maritime operations across sub-Saharan Africa. The Swiss legal team is led by chief legal officer Christophe Robert and is made up by four lawyers and one paralegal based in Geneva. They work closely with the three other lawyers in the team who are based in Africa. The legal team’s work is segmented in four main areas, namely, operational and strategic legal advising, governance, compliance and communication, commercial contracts and insurances. For each area, the legal team has implemented an allocation per subject and per region. The legal team deals with all M&A matters and supports business development projects. Latest deals include the purchase of Atlas Energy in The Gambia, a leading natural gas liquids company in the country with 28 service stations and other businesses and the acquisition of three ship owning companies in Malta. The legal team has been heavily involved in the negotiation of the Mauritania Borrowing Base, which has been awarded in 2019, the African Commodities Finance Deal of the Year by Trade and Export Finance. The legal team has also been integral to the creation of a captive company in Malta to optimise the insurance portfolio and to further provide tailor made risk management solutions to Oryx Energies.
