What are the most significant cases or transactions that you have been involved in over the past year?
Among a large number of projects, one stands out: the sale of 50% shares in a wholly-owned subsidiary PTT LNG Co., Ltd., to Electricity Generative Authority of Thailand (EGAT) for US$450m in April 2024. The company, later called “PE LNG Company Limited”, operates LNG-Receiving Terminal 2 in Rayong, Thailand. This makes it the largest venture between PTT and EGAT.
Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?
We initiated the use of our “OGC Chatbot” a year or so before most of the world was excited about the coming of Chat GPT. The Chatbot, along with an AI tool invented by a data science university professor along with a law professor, has been in place to respond to pain points like repeated questions. It also allows us to analyse outside business hours needed, and hedges against the risk of knowledge and experience being attached to individuals who might retire or leave the company. With the fast development of Open AI since, our early adoption means that we are at a further stage of development than other legal teams. We continue developing and testing, feeding and training our Chatbot, and are now gearing towards putting in samples or standard clauses of legal documents and contracts. Developed from the work with us, the professors are now working towards adapting the AI’s legal literacy to provide general knowledge.
