What are the most significant cases and transactions that you have recently been involved in?

I have been involved in the mega-investment project of the Government, namely U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Airport City development project. It is a PublicPrivate Partnership (PPP) valued at $5.83 bn. I also support the Royal Thai Navy in an international loan for the Runway 2 development project valued at $500m.

How do you see the general counsel role evolving in Thailand over the next five-ten years?

I believe that the general counsel must adapt to evolving technologies such as AI. Many people said AI will replace lawyers, however, AI still lacks some basic skills humans possess such as curiosity, sympathy and social skills. The general counsel who can creatively use AI will be an outstanding resource. Moreover, the general counsel should have a business mind and learn outfield knowledge and skills.

Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?

The effects of AI on the legal world are likely somewhere in between overplayed and underplayed. Here’s a breakdown of both sides.

AI won’t replace lawyers entirely. The legal profession requires creativity, judgment, and social skills that machines currently lack. AI is better suited for tasks with clear rules and procedures when handling complex legal cases. However intricate legal issues will still need human expertise. On the other hand, AI can automate repetitive tasks like document review and legal research, freeing up lawyers’ time for strategy and client service.

AI-powered tools can help people understand legal issues and navigate the legal system, even without a lawyer.

Noted: the above answer is generated by Gemini.

As you can imagine, AI can be applied to our work in several ways, human can use AI in some tasks that are time-consuming and do not require professional skills. In sum, AI will significantly impact the legal world, it does not replace but enhances our efficiency.
