Following the acquisition by Amgen of Turkish drug maker Mustafa Nevzat for $700 million in 2012, the merged entity began operating with Canan Arslan heading legal matters in Turkey since 2013. Prior to the merger, Mustafa Nevzat was the leading supplier of pharmaceuticals to the hospital sector and a major supplier of injectable medicines in Turkey. The legal function has been praised for its work in helping Amgen Turkey to continue with its domestic supply of medicines while obtaining the necessary regulatory approvals to export its products to new global markets. Nominators praised the department’s ‘detailed understanding of regulations governing the pharmaceuticals sector’ and ‘ability not only to follow such regulations as may apply to the sector, but to actively influence their direction for the benefit of the wider industry’.
