Led by head of legal, Tugce Karagozlu, the legal team at CarrefourSA, a Turkish joint venture between Europe’s largest retailer, Carrefour, and Turkey’s largest industrial and financial conglomerate, Sabancı Holding, has been involved in a number of significant developments for the company in recent years. The team assisted Sabancı in becoming CarrefourSA’s largest stakeholder in 2013 after it acquired an additional 12% stake for €60m. Having established its skills in M&A transactions, the team then supported the company in another big acquisition in 2015 when it purchased 85% of Turkish retailer Kiler, in a share transfer agreement worth $165m. Most recently, in 2016, the team participated in negotiations for the company to hire Bank of America Corporation to sell shares in the joint venture to boost the stock’s trading on the İstanbul stock exchange.
