Doğan TV Holding is the largest broadcasting group in Turkey, operating several media companies and channels including one of Turkey’s leading mainstream entertainment channels, KANAL D and other popular channels like CNN Türk. With a team of 12 staff, led by Neşe Kaya Durak, the Doğan TV in-house team was instrumental in overseeing a recent business restructuring process. Due to rapid changes in the media sector the team implemented a reorganisation within the group and reduced headcount in line with the rest of the business. The team has also begun presenting internal seminars for managers to explain regulatory changes in the media industry that have fostered ‘discouraging circumstances’, according to Aslihan Dumlu, senior legal counsel. Dumlu explains the process of this adaption: ‘After having assessed the business, figured out the gaps in the sector to see what problems there were on the surface, the team tackled each related legal problem by incorporating new regulations, developing different methods of business conduct and implementing adapted strategy’. As one of the biggest media organisations in the country, the current political environment in Turkey has also placed Doğan TV Holding under immense pressure to present coverage of significant events in an accurate and timely manner. The legal team has helped navigate this period of enhanced sensitivity, protecting the employees and the business.
