Google Türkiye
Founded in 2005, Google Türkiye’s line of business includes soliciting advertising on a contract or fee basis for newspapers, magazines, radio and television stations, or for other media platforms. As a facilitator of advertisers, the company is sometimes open to collateral liability when advertisers do not fully adhere to applicable laws and regulations of the locations they advertise in. Nominated in recognition of ‘their outstanding skills and hard work’, the company’s legal team, headed by Kutay Yayin, has consistently proven effective in meeting their responsibility for ensuring that Google Türkiye and facilitated advertisers comply with all applicable laws and regulations for all of the locations where their ads are showing. As an example the team helped the company dodge a wave of internet bans in Turkey in 2015 when it complied with a court order to remove links to images of Mehmet Selim Kiraz, a prosecutor who died after leftist militants took him hostage at an Istanbul courthouse. The legal team subscribes to a philosophy designed to quickly implement compliance requirements so as to avoid losing money that could negatively affect Google Türkiye’s commercial aims. As a consequence, one of the measures they have taken is to construct a comprehensive framework of active laws in all the countries they operate in.
