As general counsel, Ozgur Colpan leads the legal team of five at the Turkish arm of multinational consumer and industrial goods company Henkel. After defining external law firm policies and strengthening the relationship with senior management, the team has been focused directly on controlling the main litigation cases and provision booking process in the light of new International Financial Reporting Standards requirements. Among other things, the team has gained recognition for establishing a contract management system which allows business teams “direct involvement” to the contract drafting process, implementing global procedures and guidelines in the local environment with the support of the regional and local legal teams and creating a well-working reporting and provision booking system with regards the litigation cases. As the Turkish market becomes more and more regulated and as a consequence of the economic environment Henkel’s legal workload is increasing on daily basis. The team can boast a strong relationship with senior management to limit these external factors on the business.
