TAV Airports Holding was established in 1997 as a joint venture, between Tepe and Akfen groups and Airport Consulting Vienna, and today is one of the leading airline operators in Turkey. Heading the company’s legal function, general counsel Ceyda Akbal has been with TAV Airports for just almost a decade, having joined as legal counsel in 2009. Under her leadership the legal team has been instrumental in the airport’s growth. In January 2015, TAV Airports won a bid on the US$1.1bn project to increase Bahrain International Airport’s capacity from four to 14 million passengers per year, with a 51-month engagement to build it. Later that year, in October, TAV Airports won a 20-year lease of the Milas–Bodrum Airport with the bid price of €717m. This year, TAV entered the US market by winning the tender for the duty-free areas of the George Bush Intercontinental Airport. Members of the legal team assisted on this project in what is a significant achievement for both the legal team and the company.
