First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently (cases, transactions, projects)?

Our extended team operated in several jurisdictions and successfully carries out numerous construction and development projects, collaborating with external counsel. We have recently been involved in the landmark projects Ust Lunga Gas Processing plants and the LNG plant. Additionally, our legal team has successfully closed the sale of our healthcare facility management services to ISS in a rather complex deal — in this transaction we only relied on in-house legal resources demonstrating our broad expertise.Furthermore, the legal team has actively engaged in the development activities surrounding the Ceyhan Industrial Zone its facilities (a polypropylene dehydrogenation facility and associated terminal facilities). Other than the transactional work, our teams ensures that our operations are conducted in line with legal guidance and that processes are executed efficiently across the globe both in relation to contentious and non-contentious matters.

Which recent political, economic, or regulatory changes have impacted the company and the team the most?

Covid-19 continues to have an impact on both the business and the legal team. We have had to enhance our remote working skills and digitalisation processes. Attracting and retaining top talent has become more crucial than ever. ESG concerns also continue to be on top of our agenda. Additionally, the global supply crunch and the continued increase in the material costs have had a considerable impact on the business pressuring everyone to focus on efficiency.

How has the increasing consciousness of climate change and sustainability affected the company and the team’s priorities?

Being a signatory of the Global Compact, climate change awareness is embedded in our organisation. The team’s priority has always been minimising the impact of climate change of our operations. The shifting focus on sustainability in the market has also had a direct impact on our day-to-day business activities — we have recently obtained a financing from the EBRD and committed to further support employability opportunities for women. To monitor and transparently share our efforts on sustainability, we have prepared our first sustainability report this year compiling our efforts on a group-wide basis.
