What has been the number one challenge that has impacted you over the past year?

Over the past year, working as an in-house counsel in a technology company has been both challenging and an opportunity for improvement. You need to act in a rapidly evolving environment that requires following newly developed products, understanding their impact on contractual relations, and determining where these effects should be evaluated in terms of local legislation. I can say that working in a technology company with sustainable growth and transformation goals is a challenging and yet, very progressive experience.

In your opinion, what areas should in-house lawyers focus on over the next few years to prove value to their organisations in Türkiye?

To create value for their organisation, I think legal departments should focus on simplifying and harmonising their legal processes. Business operations gets more complicated each day, which make the decision-making and implementation processes even more burdensome. I believe it will be important for legal departments to optimise their day-to-day work as much as possible and simplify these processes to save time and creating value in the company.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

We worked with everyone to identify all the steps involved in the contracting process and devised ways to simplify this process. By identifying unnecessary steps, we created a more applicable and non-tiring system.
