What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I am very proud to work as a legal counsel at Samsung, one of the world’s leading companies. After 11 years, Samsung decided to establish a factory in Türkiye and began phone production there two years ago. This is an important foreign investment for Türkiye. We work diligently to monitor and arrange the legal issues of the company, especially the preparation of company documents and contract management. We carry out significant projects in creating and developing the compliance programme and establishing a compliance culture within the company.

Furthermore, we have incorporated global compliance regulations into the company in accordance with the Turkish legal system through localisation efforts. I am happy to play a role in the company’s progress with the work we do. Notably, despite being only a two-year-old factory, our company entered Türkiye’s Top 500 Industrial Enterprises list, published by the Istanbul Chamber of Industry in 2022, at the 212th place. I am sure that our company will continue to progress every day with the contribution of our work. It makes me proud to work in an important global structure like Samsung and to represent Türkiye in this way.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

As part of our preventive legal work and risk minimisation, we amicably resolved a high-value legal dispute with one of the world’s leading companies. In another matter, we have creatively introduced a new addition to the contract management processes in line with local working procedures. This addition did not impose any cost on the company and prevented the emergence of legal disputes.

What is a cause, business related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?

A cause refers more to a reason for an action or condition. We can achieve that result by taking certain actions. Rather than focusing on the reason, I think it is more important to focus on the actions that lead to results and ensure these actions are consistent with each other. Therefore, the reason I care about is to stay on the path and keep learning. The continuation of human life and harmony with nature depends on following our curiosity to learn. When we follow this curiosity, see our rights and wrongs clearly, and aim for improvement, all difficulties and beauties are laid out before us like dominoes. Then, we can easily reach the desired outcome, whatever it may be. Thus, my cause in this life is to stay on the road in a balanced way: to question what new things I can learn, how I can deepen my understanding of what I have learnt, and how to put it into action. Like an archer, I aim to look at the result out of the corner of my eye while staying on the path and following the way.
