What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
There are many commercial transactions as well as Visa led initiatives in the country being a pioneer in payments industry where we are involved as Legal. However, due to very strict confidentiality reasons, I am not allowed to mention any of them here.
What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?
There are market specific priorities and cluster specific priorities. The intersecting priority is always to develop and enhance the targets and products that could be safely and appropriately offered in the market. Visa is a global pioneer in payments industry all over the world and it is of utmost importance that legal, compliance and business functions work in harmony and together at all times. We take business priorities and merge with the legal ones such as full compliance with local laws, regulatory requirements as well as the Visa Rules. For 2024 specific, Visa’s commitment to the payments industry continues to be growth and introducing new payment flows which help economies thrive with safety and high technology standards. We, as Legal Team, are more involved in the business than we have ever been, being one of the most important stakeholders for all the teams. Our team’s focus is to create as practical and appropriate solutions as we can for the business to lead to the end result where both Visa and ecosystem players along with the consumers are considered and protected. Last but not least, given the rise and shine of AI all across the world, worth to mention here. AI has been an integral part of the business at Visa for over 30 years to reduce and prevent fraud in the ecosystem- and not limited to a specific function in the company. To name it, Visa became the first network to deploy AI-based technology for risk and fraud management, pioneering the use of AI models in payments security – becoming one of the most tangible benefits of AI. With that, our strategy on AI is to keep abreast of the latest developments and trends in AI law and ethics, both locally and globally, and to update our knowledge and skills accordingly.
Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
Yes. One of the most important things in life is to have a passion, something that drives you and gives you a sense of purpose. For me, I have both personal and professional passions. They are both related to improving the lives of others and making a positive impact on the world.
Personally, I can say that I am quite passionate about kids. I have always loved spending time with children and helping them grow and learn. I see them as little and pure human beings that you can shape however you like and in return you reap what you sow. I am trying to support children and child programs in different ways had paid visits to Social Services. I enjoy seeing the kids’ smiles and hearing their laughter. They inspire me with their curiosity, creativity, and resilience. They also teach me a lot about patience, empathy, and gratitude. I believe that investing in kids is investing in the future, and I want to do my part in making that future brighter.
Nowadays, I am also passionate about AI professionally. I believe that AI is a powerful tool that can enhance human capabilities and well-being, and I want to contribute to its advancement and ethical use. The generative AI unlocks new era of AI and we are piloting the use of generative AI capabilities for our employees so developers can benefit from sophisticated AI pair programming techniques at scale. At our company, to increase productivity, all employees have access to a secure instance of GPT-4, with guiding principles and clear governance tools for use, including a pre-training. For sure, the AI can (and it is very welcome to) help the legal realm to prepare the decision making infrastructure and process; especially with the LLM technology over the big data but human judgment and control is irreplaceable – at least for a significant period. We may never know what could happen in a decade so always better to keep the eyes open and play it safe.
