What are the most significant cases and transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?
Our legal team has been involved in several significant cases and transactions recently. We successfully navigated complex regulatory environments, in particular, ensuring compliance with ISO 27001- Information Security Management System (ISMS). To become certified, an organisation typically undergoes a formal certification process conducted by an accredited certification body.
This process includes a comprehensive audit of the organisation’s ISMS to ensure it meets the requirements of the ISO 27001 standard. Achieving ISO 27001 certification provides assurance to customers, stakeholders, and partners that the organisation takes information security seriously and has implemented best practices to protect their information.
Our legal team’s efforts towards the completion of various agreements have also helped streamline business operations and protect our clients’ interests. Our expertise in structuring various business models has enabled us to create innovative solutions that drive growth and sustainability.
We have worked hard to create a collaborative environment in the workplace, with the aim of starting cross-functional collaboration, encouraging knowledge sharing and fostering a culture of teamwork and mutual respect both within the legal and compliance team, and other departments. By implementing these strategies, we have created a collaborative environment which ultimately drives success in legal and compliance initiatives.
What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?
My team and I are guided by various strategic priorities, including enhancing data privacy and security, strengthening compliance processes, supporting business growth, managing legal risks and enhancing collaboration.
Given the increasing importance of data protection, we are focusing on enhancing our data privacy and security measures while complying with all applicable data protection regulations; meeting the expectations of our business partners; and strengthening our compliance processes across all areas of the organisation.
This includes conducting regular audits, reviewing and updating policies and procedures, and providing training to employees to ensure they understand and comply with relevant laws and regulations. In terms of supporting business growth, we are focused on re-structuring our current products to strengthen our position in the market. This can be achieved through improvements in quality, extending product lines, or enhancing service offerings, thereby increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty.
When it comes to legal risk management, our ongoing efforts have concentrated on monitoring changes in laws and regulations, assessing potential legal risks, and developing strategies to mitigate such risks. Finally, as part of ensuring that the organisation achieving its business objectives in a compliant and sustainable manner, we are working to enhance collaboration within all departments in the company.
Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?
As the director of legal and compliance, beyond my commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, another cause I am deeply passionate about is ethical business practices and corporate social responsibility. This includes everything from ethical accounting practices to transparent reporting and effective board oversight.
As part of my role, ensuring that our governance structures support ethical decision-making is paramount. This cause aligns closely with my professional role and personal values, emphasising the importance of conducting business in a manner that is not only legally compliant, but also ethically sound and socially responsible.
