What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

In 2021, I joined the IC Group, one of Turkey’s largest conglomerates, as the leader of the legal team. Since then, our team has been pivotal in handling significant cases and deals for the Group.

In an international EPC contract dispute, we navigated litigation in both Turkey and Italy, obtaining injunctions in both jurisdictions and initiating ICC arbitration. As a result, the employer agreed to settle with our represented company, issuing the Company’s taking-over certificate and resolving outstanding payments.

In Turkey, we secured a decisive victory for one of our group’s companies in a case challenging the annulment of mining permission. This victory was crucial as it pertained to operating one of Turkey’s largest electricity power plants.

Additionally, our team successfully orchestrated the rapid acquisition of an Italian renewable energy company.

We also achieved a landmark court decision in Turkey, securing damage claims against an insurance company amid the Covid-19 pandemic. This decision stands as a precedent in Turkish legal history.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?

In 2024, I aim to spearhead digital transformation efforts within the legal department, focusing on streamlining processes, enhancing efficiency, and leveraging technology to optimise legal operations within the IC Group.

Additionally, I plan to establish a flagship legal organisation that will become an annual tradition for the IC Group. This organisation will bring together the entire Group’s in-house legal teams, as well as distinguished national and international legal professionals, for a series of speeches, seminars, discussions, and workshops centred around a specific legal theme designated for each year.

By prioritising digital transformation initiatives and establishing a platform for collaborative learning and knowledge sharing, we can enhance the effectiveness and impact of the legal department while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the IC Group.

I am deeply passionate about serving as a mentor for the next generation, leveraging my extensive experience and knowledge to guide and support individuals in their personal and professional growth journey.
