What are the most significant cases or transactions your legal team has been involved in recently?

My legal team and I have been actively involved in several significant transactions and critical case processes in various areas. One of the most significant legal transactions was PETKIM’s acquisition of shares in STAR refinery, pursuant to which PETKIM became 12% an indirect shareholder in Turkey’s first privately built refinery.

Our legal team has played a key role in facilitating and ensuring the success of this important transaction. Another notable transaction was our involvement in securing the financing for repayment of PETKIM’s $500m Eurobond. For this purpose, we have successfully negotiated a $300m credit agreement between our company and JP Morgan Securities.

What strategic priorities will guide you and your team in 2024?

In 2024, my legal team and I are focused on strategic priorities aimed at integrating sustainability into our legal strategy; accelerating digital transformation; enhancing proactive risk management; and, most importantly, continuously developing our professional expertise. Our goal is to effectively support PETKIM’s dynamic business environment and innovative strategies. By prioritising these initiatives, we aim to drive legal excellence and contribute to PETKIM’s sustainable growth and success.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about? 

I have been a nature enthusiast since childhood and prioritise the importance of a sustainable environment for my own children and future generations. As a result, I am dedicated to advocating for sustainability and corporate responsibility and ethical practices within businesses. Integrating these values into our legal strategies is crucial for enabling businesses to operate in a more sustainable and socially responsible manner.
