Could you share with us the story of your path to becoming an in-house counsel? What motivated you to choose this career path?
My professional journey began as an intern at the Competition Authority and one of the largest global banks. I always knew I wanted a corporate life and to be involved in large projects, supporting and counselling banks and other financial institutions affiliated with related banks on their decisions, associated risks, and potential legal outcomes. All these aspects were precisely what I desired, so making the decision was simple for me.
In your role as an in-house counsel, what are the main responsibilities and tasks you handle on a day-to-day basis?
My duties include keeping the bank and its affiliates operating as efficiently as possible, providing risk advice to the bank and its affiliates, and assisting them in implementing new plans and strategies. I dedicate time to drafting contracts, participating in meetings and new projects, and generally handling any matters requiring in-house legal counsel and assistance.
What are some of the key challenges you have faced as a rising star in-house counsel, and how have you overcome them?
The most challenging task I have undertaken as an in-house counsel is staying updated on innovations in the sector I am involved in, as it constantly renews itself. This necessitates working with a highly active and innovative legal team. Having colleagues with strong adaptability, innovation, and proactive problem-solving skills allows me to overcome these challenges. Collaboration with other lawyers and professionals from diverse backgrounds is important in the business world and requires a cross-sectional perspective. Developing these qualities as a strong team with colleagues is essential for the advancement of an in-house lawyer.
