What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our legal team has been involved with a preliminary investigation to find out that most of the senior directors have been indicted. This investigation continued for over 16 months and created groundless negative publicity against the mining sector and the company. The case was about mercury detection at the plantation. After the investigation some of the senior managers have been indicted. Our team succeeded in preventing the prosecutors affected from disinformation. And another accusation that has been made against the company was about environmental pollution, a dangerous accusations for the company and mining sector. The accusation was about cyanide discharge and our team after seven months of legal battles managed to prove that the accusations were untrue. So, the investigation has been dismissed. The latter investigation has been used and spoiled by mining opponents and some groups against the company. These malicious activities targeted our company’s reputation which could affect ESG policies and sustainability of the company. However, the team managed to have the case dismissed. For both cases our team communicated and clarified the facts just to prevent misinformation and disinformation. Basically our legal team has become an integral part of the ESG department but not dependent on. We started to drive decision making process and earned our own seat in conformity with business mindset.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?

For 2024 our strategic priorities are to enhance ESG standards and policies in align with climate change, frantic, volatile global and national developments. Since legal compliance is a sine qua non issue, we will improve our legal compliance application even to search for AI if applicable in the future. Health and safety is top priority, particularly for hazardous workplaces, so given that drug addiction rates are dramatically increasing all over the world among everyone so implementation of drug and alcohol test and procedure at workplace is very important in terms of maintaining health and safety. And lastly our legal team will be involved and be the main part of the development project unit after our insistence on the matter.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

Yes, I do have. I am very passionate about being part of a project such as developing a mine or M&As. I happened to be one of the main team members of a development project that was an international mining project. Especially even though I am not experienced on a subject I shall not wait to have experience just sitting back. Experience does not come from the sky but comes as long as you dare to get it.
