What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

I can say that last year we managed to resolve a very important dispute with a settlement before it reached the litigation stage. We faced the possibility of legal sanctions due to deficiencies in the work received from an international service company whose name it is not possible to disclose.

We progressed through the pre-litigation and mediation negotiations by making us feel that we were aware of our contractual rights and legal limits. We tried to take a constructive and solution-oriented approach during this process.

The detailed study and consultation process with experts was very effective and we resolved the issue with settlement.

Another important success was our recent work on the ‘collective bargaining agreement’ we signed with the Trade Union which organised in our production plant. We managed to conclude a difficult but very constructive contract, in which our terms were accepted, protecting the company’s interests and supporting a sustainable working environment.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?

Managing the legal affairs of one of the world’s largest global companies’ investments in Turkiye is a great responsibility. Our main goal is to act in accordance with this responsibility and integrate into global policies and operations at the maximum level.

We have been working diligently for about three years and I think we have reached a certain stage. Of course, we still have a way to go. We are determining a legal and compliance strategy that will lead in 2024, especially in the field of compliance, that operates in accordance with all requirements in the legislation and provides positive support to brand and company reputation.

In this sense, in projects that will contribute to production and company goals, it is always necessary to be involved with other functions and to share their excitement while also putting legal and compliance mechanisms into action.

Actually, our main strategic goals are: (i) Solution Provider — solution and support oriented approach in every field; (ii) Customer satisfaction — if we are working in house, we must satisfy the management we report to with the services and work we provide; (iii) Efficiency — while doing our jobs, our purpose must be to do things well, successfully, and without waste. (iv) Innovation — conducting business and being creative with an innovative perspective

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I believe that people should first seek happiness in their lives. In this context, work should not be a purpose but a kind of tool that serves the purpose. For this reason, it is important to have a profession that you love passionately and to feel the positive results of your work.

It would be meaningful if awareness was raised about the results of every project and work I carried out, or if it was appreciated. My main goal is to move forward freely and confidently and to leave a positive mark.
