What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

Our legal team is dealing with many legal challenges regarding intellectual property rights in Turkey and abroad. As our brands are well known globally through social media, we face countless incidents regarding unauthorised use, unlawful attempts to register identical or alike trademarks in different jurisdictions that are governed by different legal systems. While we are working for enforcement of intellectual property rights against piracy and counterfeiting activities, we also fight for complex intellectual property disputes in different legal regimes with different types of legal proceedings available to resolve issues including civil, administrative and criminal proceedings.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?

It is our priority to consolidate and simplify the way how we deal with legal work that spread across the globe without compromising the quality. Due to commercial activities expanded over a wide geographical area, we are dealing with a considerable number of legal parties that we handle separately while taking into consideration the conditions unique to each country or state. I am happy to share that the in-house legal team is proved to be an invaluable and indispensable part of the business team while involving in a wide array of topics such as investment decisions, IP, M&A, litigation and compliance.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

I am passionate about pro-bono work, and I try to do my best to help those in need. On February 6, 2023, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in southeast Turkey killing more than 40,000 people and erasing entire cities. Our company immediately took action to help those suffering in the aftermath of the mega disaster, with thousands homeless and living in freezing conditions. In addition to monetary and in-kind donations provided, Nusr-et set up a catering hall which operated 24 hours, serving 5000 people every day. I am proud to be in a team who uses their talents for the public good and makes an impact while serving community and making valuable contribution in people’s lives.
