What are the most significant cases or transactions that your legal team has recently been involved in?

The most important litigations that we have taken part in involve applying to the courts of each jurisdiction that our group operates in to restructure the company’s debts. This protects the group company that resides in the respective jurisdiction. We successfully secured protection from the courts to continue our operations and executed restructuring contracts with our debtors. We also managed to execute restricting contracts with most of our debtors. These litigations saved the company from going bankrupt.

What strategic priorities are guiding you and your team in 2024?

Clarity and adaptability. Legal advice to be rendered to our company must be clear, understandable and business-oriented. Yet, it varies from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, sector to sector, customer to costumer, and even when making a sale or purchase. Hence, each case requires its own legal and business-oriented analysis. While it might be challenging for the general counsel and for the legal team, I think it is essential, taking the future of the company into consideration.

Do you have a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about?

Being a lawyer is a cause by itself; as one of the most challenging professions in the world, it cannot be executed without being passionate. It does not matter if you are a general counsel, partner in a global law firm, or a first year; you must have the fire in your heart to continue your role. Competition in the legal business aside, you must compete with yourself for adaptation and self-efficiency.
