What are some of the notable cases and transactions that our legal team has been involved in recently?

At the heart of our company’s vision is the belief that we must proactively contribute to making the world more sustainable. As a digital company, we operate in a landscape where technology is rapidly advancing, leading to constant evolution in the legal and regulatory sphere. This dynamic environment poses stimulating challenges to our legal team working with our customers to leverage technology and develop a better future.

Our legal work spans diverse sectors, including education, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and the public sector. We demonstrate our commitment to making a positive impact through numerous transactions. For instance, we partner with health organisations to leverage our ground-breaking technology, enabling personalised treatment plans for healthcare professionals. Additionally, we collaborate on projects that enhance safety measures, such as the Nürburgring racetrack by connecting artificial intelligence track cameras. We also work closely with government agencies delivering important services, for example, the removal of space debris to reduce potential damage to vital communications satellites and the successful delivery of the most technologically advanced Commonwealth Games in history at Birmingham 2022.

What do you see as an opportunity or risk over the next six months?

Demonstrating the value, we bring to our business is a top priority. Legal services are sometimes not as tangible compared to other teams. With numerous legal service providers on offer to a business, financial volatility, and technological advancements such as generative AI, there is a risk our role is eroded unless we continually evolve. However, our proximity to the business gives us a distinct advantage in providing tailored support that makes a lasting impact. In-house legal teams cannot sit in the background and advise from afar. We need to be an active voice, embracing these challenges and contributing to the bottom line of our business. Therefore, we prioritise delivering premium results by staying informed about industry trends and regulations, embracing legal tech to boost efficiency and streamline processes, investing and nurturing our talent and being proactive in building relationships across our business.

Could you share an example of a time when you came up with an innovation that improved how your legal team works and did not come at a large expense?

Developing our digital Global Deal Playbook, consisting of 118 content sections, was a significant milestone. The playbook is a comprehensive guide for contract risk positions while establishing global standards, aligning with our digital objectives and meeting our business expectations. It enables the team to consistently evaluate contract risks, navigate negotiations easily, and significantly improves our speed of contracting.
