Vice-president, general counsel and secretary | Lincoln Center
And corporate counsel working for a non-profit organization could do well to take inspiration from Leslie Rosenthal. The Lincoln Center first tapped her in 2005 to oversee its transformation from a legal project: the brief was a $1.2bn project involving 37 interrelated construction projects, and was New York’s second largest after Ground Zero. She’d previously been a media, entertainment and real estate litigator at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton and Garrison, and that, coupled with personal passion for music, made her the ideal person for the job. Following its culmination in 2012, Rosenthal published a book, Good Counsel: Meeting the Needs of non-profits, which became a #1 bestseller on Amazon. It was the first of its kind by a sitting general counsel, and has been described as a “must read” for anyone with an interest in the legal needs of the USA’s one million tax exempt charitable organizations. She is also chair of Charity Corps: Lawyers Helping Nonprofits, set up to encourage more pro-bono legal services to charities.
