Leading research-based pharmaceutical company, AbbVie has a team of senior legal counsel located in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela and Guatemala. The legal department is responsible for supporting and giving legal advice to all countries in Latina America and the Caribbean, a geographically significant area with a US$1bn sales area and approximately 2,000 employees. The legal department are expertly equipped to deal with a broad range of matters encompassing commercial and corporate law, transactional work, litigation, intellectual property, distribution agreements, supply chain issues and labour and employment work. The legal team also contributed to AbbVie earning the highest category of compliance audit results in all countries in the Latin America region. The legal team is currently led by newly appointed, Latin America legal director, Karen Sewell, based in Chicago, who leads the legal department for the Latin America commercial area to deal with complex legal and regulatory frameworks within an innovative business environment, by providing legal counsel around strategic objectives and key risk areas.
