Marriott International has a high quality US-based legal team that specialises in handling matters in the Caribbean and Latin American region, one of the company’s biggest markets. The team worked on the opening of 19 hotels and signed a record 37 deals in 2017, one of the best years Marriott has had in the region. In November 2018, Marriott was hit with a major data security breach in its Starwood brand’s customer database. The Latin American focused team handled the fallout from this attack on the brand’s customer base in the region reviewing security protocols and handling legal matters in conjunction with the company’s data security and the wind down of the Starwood reservations database, as part of the merger of the companies started in 2016.
