Willis Towers Watson has a strong presence in the Latin American region in the insurance and risk brokerage market with operations in Argentina, Brazil, Central America and the Caribbean, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. Its overall legal management is a mixture of in-country teams and a leadership team based in Miami. Fabio M. Gomez, head of legal – Latin America and deputy general counsel, international region, runs the leadership legal team based in Miami which acts as a key influencer and the lead business lawyer for all legal matters arising from business operations in the region. The team of seven lawyers under Gomez’s direction, assess and advise management on a range of risk management issues that may impact operations in the region, including corporate governance, commercial agreements, claims, labour matters, litigation, regulatory issues and provide support on sensitive investigations; directing and controlling the workflow of legal matters for the region. The team also provides training to the rest of the firm on legal and compliance matters, handles litigation and manages relationships with external counsel.
