Deputy general counsel | Corporación América
First, can you please give us an idea of the sort of work your team has done recently?
I am the deputy general counsel at the corporate legal team of CAAP.
CAAP’s corporate legal team oversees various legal and corporate matters affecting the company. As deputy general counsel, I mainly focus on general legal corporate matters and company governance.
From my role in the corporate legal team, I was instrumental in listing the company’s shares on the NYSE after a ten-month preparation process, during which I was responsible for updating the company’s corporate governance practices and reporting obligations.
In the past years, as part of the legal team, I was involved in various complex liability management transactions undertaken by key operating units to respond to the impact of Covid-29 on the operations of the company and its subsidiaries.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you care about, and why?
I am deeply concerned about climate change and the world our children will inherit due to the climate crisis. I believe we should focus on environmentally sustainable factors, take actions starting from our role, and encourage management to commit to the inclusion of such elements into the financial analysis. It is crucial to work with local governments and communities in promoting initiatives and improving the sustainable development of the environments where our activities are developed.
What can law firms do to improve their service to the legal department?
Law firms must be involved in the company’s business to understand its needs. Sometimes we, as a company, receive “standardised” advice. Still, we expect law firms to understand the company’s transactions deeply, and the objectives pursued.
