What innovations have you made to the way your legal team works in the past year?
We try to adopt AI in some of our work, such as reading/summarising contracts/reports, translation, and Q&As.
Based on your experience, what is the key to collaborating successfully with business partners?
Listening and solution driven. Building trust. Once our business partners understand that we are not the blocker and would always support them where possible, they will be supportive too. They are also concerned about liability, so once they trust that we would help where possible, that includes telling them where the boundaries are, they will accept our advice or come to the same conclusion.
Which political, economic or regulatory changes have impacted your work the most in the past year?
Too many regulatory changes. There are so many new laws, amended laws, degrees and circulars. Updating yourself with all these changes and adapting your business to these changes is already a challenge.
How do you motivate and manage the other members of your legal team well?
By delegating power and give them space to develop, while staying aside to give support when necessary.
What is a cause, business-related or otherwise, that you are passionate about, and why?
I am passionate about legal career because I can see things and projects happening with my support. Sometimes even if the legal person is never mentioned (like standing behind the scenes).
Are the effects of AI on the legal world overplayed, or underplayed?
I think it is still underplayed, and we still know little about it. AI is only at a starting point. I believe it will have effects in the way we work, but like how human has been dealing with technology, at the end it will replace certain human work, but at the same time helps us, or force us, to work more efficiently.
