What do you see as the main points that differentiate ILG (International Legal Group) from your competitors?

ILG (International Legal Group) stands out from its competitors due to its rich history of over 40 years in the industry, which has provided the firm with in-depth knowledge and experience. Its involvement in the creation of key laws further solidifies its expertise. The firm’s commitment to diversity, including bilingual capabilities, allows it to cater effectively to clients from various regions. With the number of Chinese companies in Kuwait increasing as a result of several mega government projects, ILG has a distinct advantage in representing and advising clients from this jurisdiction. Additionally, ILG has successfully established long terms collaboration with major international firms such as DLA Piper, Dentons and HFW etc. Its proactive, client-oriented approach to handling matters ensures that clients receive tailored legal solutions.

Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?

In the next 12 months, we will see a significant growth in foreign investment practice which is a key area poised for expansion, as we note increasing more foreign companies express their keenness to enter into Kuwait market. Additionally, legal services related to several mega government projects are expected to be a major driver of growth of ILG. The rise of technology in e-commerce and AI will further enhance and expand a niche market for us.

What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?

A key transformation implemented is to enhance client services, through strategic management and restructuring that is designed to improve efficiency and responsiveness. This restructuring optimises resource allocation, ensuring clients receive tailored and effective legal support. As a result, the firm can now address client needs more efficiently and deliver prompt legal solutions. We are adopting new technologies and modern approaches to client interactions and court procedures, which will position us to stay ahead competition.

Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?

Technology is fundamentally transforming client interactions and the delivery of legal services. By leveraging advanced digital platforms, the firm is optimising client communication, enabling seamless real-time exchange of critical legal information and updates. This strategic integration not only enhances client engagement and accessibility but also facilitates procedural efficiency, thereby minimising turnaround times and ensuring more effective legal outcomes.

Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?

A notable example of our expertise is our work with the Kuwait Private Investment Development Agency (KPIDA), where we guided a client in establishing companies under its regulatory framework, streamlining market entry and maximising investment opportunities. We also successfully challenged the legal framework on equal treatment of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members and Kuwaiti entities, securing a landmark judgment that eliminated preferential advantages for local firms, later adopted by the government. Additionally, our success in key litigation cases has enabled clients to compete more effectively in tenders, strengthening their market position.

Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?

Yes, clients are increasingly looking for stability and guidance from their law firms. In three years, ILG aims to be one of the top three law firms, with a larger market share. Having reinforced a culture of teamwork, we have enhanced attentiveness to detail, ensuring greater precision in our legal services. This transformation will enable us to solidify and strengthen our position as a leading pillar in the legal market. Previously, ILG operated under a traditional legal framework; however, I envisioned a future where innovation and modern methodologies redefine law firms as dynamic businesses that must evolve and thrive in a competitive landscape. Ensuring active engagement across all platforms that facilitate the timely circulation of legal updates, thereby keeping clients informed of ongoing changes within the legal system.
