Interview with: Ahmad Alhuriti, Senior Partner and head of the international division
Hussain Al Huraiti & Partners
What has been your greatest achievement, in a professional and personal capability?
Professional: One of my greatest achievements has been my involvement in leading the foreign department at Hussain Alhuraiti Law Firm. I’ve successfully navigated complex legal frameworks to assist foreign companies entering the Kuwaiti market, ensuring full compliance with local regulations. This has not only strengthened my expertise but also positioned our firm as a go-to for international clients. Personal: On a personal level, balancing my legal career with continuous education has been a major accomplishment. Completing my master’s degree in public law while actively practicing law has allowed me to grow both intellectually and professionally. Additionally, becoming a member of the Kuwait Lawyers Association and representing my university in external advocacy competitions has been a rewarding journey.
What do you do differently from your peers in the industry?
I believe my ability to merge legal expertise with a strong understanding of business management sets me apart. Having a background in business management has allowed me to offer strategic advice that goes beyond legal frameworks, helping clients make informed business decisions. Furthermore, I consistently stay updated with legal and technological advancements to provide innovative solutions for my clients, particularly in areas like foreign business transactions.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
I would tell my younger self to trust the process and embrace every opportunity for growth, even if it feels overwhelming. Building a career in law takes time and effort, but each experience, no matter how challenging, contributes to your development. Also, I would emphasize the importance of constantly improving soft skills, like public speaking and communication, which are as crucial as legal knowledge in building a successful career.
Can you give me a practical example of how helped a client add value to the business?
Recently, I worked with a foreign company looking to establish a presence in Kuwait. By navigating the local regulatory framework and advising on the optimal legal structure for their operations, I ensured they met all compliance requirements while maximizing business flexibility. This allowed them to successfully enter the Kuwaiti market with minimal disruption, enhancing their business value by creating a solid foundation for growth in the region.
Within your sector, what do you think will be the biggest challenge for clients over the next 12 months?
One of the biggest challenges will likely be navigating evolving regulatory landscapes, particularly for foreign companies looking to operate in Kuwait. With changes in international trade agreements, foreign investment laws, and compliance regulations, clients will need to stay vigilant and adaptable to remain competitive. Our firm is prepared to guide them through these shifts with expert legal advice and strategies tailored to their specific needs.
