Interview with: Juan Oriol Asensio, Partner
ORIOL-IP
Juan Oriol, Managing Partner of ORIOL-IP, shares how the firm is redefining IP and IT legal services through strategic vision, global reach, and a deep commitment to innovation and client value.
What do you see as the main points that differentiate ORIOL-IP from your competitors?
ORIOL-IP was founded with a clear vision: to combine deep legal expertise in intellectual property and technology with a business-oriented mindset. What sets us apart is our ability to anticipate risks and opportunities for our clients in highly dynamic industries. We offer strategic legal counsel, not just legal answers. Our international reach, supported by a curated network of collaborators, allows us to manage complex, multi-jurisdictional matters with precision. We speak the language of innovation—and we protect its value.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
We foresee continued growth in areas where technology meets legal uncertainty: IP and software protection, trade secrets, litigation, compliance, and data governance. The rise of AI, cross-border digital services, and the increasing complexity of intangible asset management are driving demand for sophisticated legal strategies. Clients are no longer asking if these issues matter—they want to know how to navigate them safely and competitively.
What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?
We have reorganized our internal services structure to ensure agility and specialization. Every client is now supported by a professional team that combines legal depth with sector-specific insight. Additionally, we’ve strengthened our project management protocols, ensuring transparency, speed, and strategic alignment at every stage. Clients feel the impact: fewer surprises, faster execution, clearer outcomes.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Absolutely. Technology allows us to be more present, more transparent, and more efficient. We’ve integrated tools and secure platforms for timely updates, document exchange, and strategic planning. But beyond tools, we believe in technological empathy—understanding the business models, products, and technical realities our clients operate in. That’s where real added value begins.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
We recently helped a client restructure its IP portfolio across Europe, Asia, and Latin America, aligning it with a new brand strategy and expansion roadmap. The result: reduced risk exposure, stronger negotiation positions, and increased company valuation. We’re not just defending and protecting assets—we’re helping build value.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
More than ever, clients want clarity, consistency, and vision. ORIOL-IP is investing in talent, processes, and international collaboration to meet those expectations at the highest level. In three years, we aim to be a well-recognised reference in Spain for IP and technology law, with a robust international outlook and a team known for excellence, integrity, and adaptability. We’re building a firm ready for the future that attracts forward-thinking clients and inspires the next generation of legal talent. We know where we’re going—and we’re going with purpose.
