Süleyman BOŞÇA, the founding and managing partner of Bosca Law, talks about expected developments in the Turkish energy sector, the contributions of technology to law firms, and how the firm is adapting to clients’ changing needs.
What do you see as the main points that differentiate [law firm name] from your competitors?
For over 20 years, BOSCA Law has been specialized in energy law and proven its expertise in this field, beginning with the period of the liberalization of the energy sector in Turkey. Our specific expertise in this area and the added value that we have provided to our clients in the energy sector is the most important point that differentiates us from our competitors. We keep track of all legal developments in the energy sector on a daily basis and provide support to lawmakers in drafting legislation. We direct our clients with a view to the developments in the energy sector and come up with rapid solutions to legal problems.
We do not only offer legal assistance for helping our clients become more dynamic and competitive in the business arena when there are disputes to be resolved. We also follow changes in legislation and help our clients’ position themselves accordingly in a rapid manner, putting them one step ahead of their competitors.
We help our clients for saving their money and time by creating speedy solutions and pursuing effective resolutions to problems arising with regulatory institutions and public authorities.
Which practices do you see growing in the next 12 months? What are the drivers behind that?
The breakneck speed of technological development and the need for new working areas and markets drives the creation of many new practice areas. Technological developments not only create new fields, but also make the technological integration of existing ones inevitable. Developments in e-commerce and the obligation to protect personal data collected through the use of technology have already created new practice areas.
At BOSCA Law, we try to keep up with these changes for offering much better and more qualified legal assistance to our clients. In the next 12 months, we believe that we will make more progress.
What’s the main change you’ve made in the firm that will benefit clients?
At BOSCA Law we believe that the best lawyer is the one who keeps track best of their engagements and their field. In keeping with this principle, BOSCA Law follows and applies the newest technological developments. We use technology in the most efficient way as far as possible to provide faster and more effective services to our clients.
Furthermore, we encourage our lawyers to attend specific sectoral training programs in order to enrich their professional development and obtain the most up-to-date information.
BOSCA Law is contactable 24 hours a day for dealing with the urgent client matters very swiftly and has a website which is very user-friendly.
Is technology changing the way you interact with your clients, and the services you can provide them?
Without a doubt, technology has a big effect on our efficient and effective serving to clients. We use technology in the most efficient way and this increases our interaction with our clients. In this respect, technology makes important contributions to our service quality. We meet our clients’ expectations by providing flexible and tailor made solutions as BOSCA Law.
Can you give us a practical example of how you have helped a client to add value to their business?
The frequent amendments made to renewable energy investment legislation forces investors to shift their positions in a rapid manner. We worked with one of our client who has renewable energy investment in Turkey and we played a key role in solving his legal issue.
Also, in energy sector public authorities can frequently change arrangements regarding contracts. In this respect, we provide legal guidance to possible disputes of energy firms who are medium to large scale players.
We have helped many clients engage in more profitable investments and obtain better returns (and make more money) through our commitment to keeping ourselves updated on energy legislation and notifying our clients about possible changes in a timely fashion. We have also helped clients avoid making misguided decisions regarding their investments and losing money.
Are clients looking for stability and strategic direction from their law firms – where do you see the firm in three years’ time?
Nowadays, clients look for more in a law firm than simply resolving legal disputes. The inclusion of lawyers on the boards of many large companies reflects the desire to obtain strategic direction and visionary insight from them. We provide the informed strategic expertise and creative solutions to our clients in their legal issues.
We believe that quick, accurate and creative response to our clients with our expert team makes us one step forward. BOSCA Law is aware of clients’ expectations and strives to provide correct and accurate guidance to its clients in many areas.
We are engaged in forming new partnerships for providing legal services to Turkish investors seeking new markets and businessmen who enter new markets in establishing a presence in many different countries. Consequently, we aim to consolidate our position among the ranks of international law firms in the next three years.
