Schoenherr is particularly well regarded for its proficiency on international energy projects across the oil and gas, wind, PV and utilities sectors, leveraging the firms cross-European set up to advise both Bulgarian and European companies, governmental and EU bodies on the acquisition, development and implementation of projects. Further areas of expertise include M&A and project financing, regulatory compliance, EU policy and local energy legislation. Dimitar Kairakov and Stefana Tsekova jointly lead the practice, with the former advising energy clients on regulatory and licensing matters and the latter having experience in development of the energy regulatory framework both at the EU and national levels.

Work highlights

Advised the EBRD and the Ministry of Energy on the implementation of Investment 6 (1.4 GW RES and Batteries Project) and Investment 8 (3 GW storage -RESTORE Project) under the Recovery and Resilience Plan with total value of over EUR 1bn, as well as on improvement of the legal framework to facilitate the RES and storage growth in the country.
Advised Enery Development GmbH (Enery) on attracting project financing from UniCredit Bulbank for the construction and operation of Enery's first greenfield solar photovoltaic (PV) project in Bulgaria.
Advised Met Suvorovo Wind Park on its corporate reorganisation, the acquisition of the necessary approvals for the reorganisation and the refinancing from the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, and the refinancing of the wind park along with the related security package.
