The eight-strong energy and natural resources team in DLA Piper Chile's Santiago office ‘demonstrates very sophisticated knowledge of both the law and how issues will play out in practice’. The practice has significant experience in power, renewables, hydrogen, mining, and oil-and-gas projects, its expertise also covering electricity sector-related regulatory advice, as well as energy sector transactions. The department further assists with compliance with energy and natural resources sector regulations, along with advising on related areas, such as public law, data privacy, cybersecurity, merger control and antitrust. It additionally assists with developing new technologies, such as utility-scale green hydrogen projects, electromobility infrastructure and AI energy developments. The team is co-led by ’great lawyer and negotiator’ Diego Peña, an adviser on the development and operation of large-scale natural resources projects; and firm founder and senior counsel Felipe Bahamondez, who is a highly-rated natural resources and regulatory specialist. Focused on renewable energy projects and energy transition work, the caseload of mid-level associate Roberta Andreani encompasses M&A deals; joint ventures; engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contracts; and operation and maintenance agreements.
