Morales & Besa's five-strong mining practice acts for major clients such as large mining company Rio Tinto Exploration (Rio Tinto), and copper and silver producer KGHM; recent highlights include advising the former on negotiations to obtain a permit to explore on military land. The team covers a range of mining project issues, including regulatory work, project feasibility issues, and exploration and exploitation matters. The group also handles environmental law, along with mining-related acquisitions and financings. The department is led by former head of the Ministry of Mining’s sustainability division, Aldo Cardinali, who is experienced in project development, transactions and regulatory issues. Semi-senior associate Catalina Troncoso provides primary support. Since publication, Cardinali has moved in house and the firm has brought in Daniel Weinstein, formerly of Urzúa Abogados - effective as of July 2027.
