Widely lauded for its insurance law expertise, Estudio Carvallo is consistently sought out to liaise with the Financial Markets Commission (CMF), in relation to regulatory matters. The practice also handles significant disputes involving the CMF, and according to one client ‘surpasses other firms, not only in its knowledge, but also in the commitment to handling cases’. Other notable areas range from insurance product design, and policy and programme drafting, to distribution agreements and insurance contract structuring. It also assists with insurance coverage-related subrogation actions concerning transportation, property, surety and liability, as well as insurance fraud-related investigations and prosecutions. Major insurers additionally turn to the team for defence-side liability policy and coverage matters. Marcelo Simian heads up the firm’s legal liability practice; María Elena Rivera focuses on maritime, pollution and damages law, along with general civil liability issues; and senior partner and insurance law, litigation and class action specialist, Manuel Carvallo (’a seasoned lawyer who is always at the forefront of the industry’s transformation’), is increasingly involved in the development and implementation of mass insurance products. Both promoted to partner level in January 2025, Carlos Cayazzo heads up the practice’s marine recovery division; and Francia Villegas leads the firm’s labour law and workers’ compensation work on behalf of liability insurers.
