DLA Piper’s focus on strengthening its lender-side practice has paid a dividend over recent years, as evidenced by its recent marquee mandates for several of the world’s largest banks and asset managers. Most notably, Natixis Investment Managers and Fubon Bank (Hong Kong) turned to the team for support on HKD280m limited recourse financing of a portfolio of rooftop solar photovoltaic projects. Led by Matthias Schemuth, a veteran project finance lawyer, the group also includes energy sector specialist Russell Wilkinson, who is particularly experienced in LNG infrastructure projects, sales and shipping. Other key names include Russell Wilkinson, who acts for a wide range of banks and financial institutions across Asia, and double-qualified in Hong Kong and New York Paul Lee. Trusted lead counsel to a raft of China-based institutions, Carolyn Dong is able to effectively bridge the cultural gap between Chinese sponsors and international investors, and is a very popular choice on a range of high-profile acquisition financings and project developments. The team also has strong restructuring and structured finance expertise throughout Hong Kong and across the wider APAC region, an area of practice that was further strengthened by the arrival of Trinh Hoang in December 2022 from Linklaters. Crystal Chen left the firm in April 2023.
