Weightmans LLP‘s education team is particularly noted for its focus on higher education acting for the full range of universities, including several Russell Group members, handling most notably, employment issues, construction projects as well as highly sensitive matters such as on-campus deaths and suicides. Having previously held senior in-house position at universities, Manchester-based Martin Vincent heads up the team with particular expertise in projects, international ventures, collaboration, income generation and procurement arrangements. While Josh Conroy specialises in high-value litigation and contractual claims and advises upon claims brought under the Public Contract Regulations 2015  commercial litigation expert Andrew Roberts acts as lead partner for further education.

Martin heads our education team and is experienced in all areas of law as it affects Universities particularly relating to projects, international ventures, collaboration, income generation and procurement arrangements. Martin previously worked at the University of Manchester where he held a senior legal position for nine years. His exceptional experience at strategic, policy and operational levels within the sector ensures that our advice is practical and results-driven. Since joining the firm in 2008, Martin has expanded the firm’s client base in HE ten-fold. He is client partner for key University clients including The Open University, Lancaster University and Solent University. Martin has exceptional experience advising Universities on collaborative ventures at home and overseas both within the EU and outside. Martin also advises on funding and clawback issues. He has advised on IP portfolio management issues, including IP due diligence, spin out creation and investments. Martin is recognised in the Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners for his work within the education sector.
