  • Advised Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. in mid-August when the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas entered summary judgment on RICO claims brought by Petrobras America, the U.S. subsidiary of Brazilian national oil company Petrobras.
  • Represented Irving Oil, one of Canada’s top energy companies, in defense against allegations that it contaminated the groundwater in Vermont by using gasoline containing methyl tertiary butyl ether.
  • Represented BP in over 18 novel climate change lawsuits filed by state and local governments in California, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and South Carolina, and by a west-coast fishermen’s trade association, alleging that the largest investor-owned oil, gas, and coal companies operating in the US have known for 50 or more years that fossil fuel emissions cause global warming.
