Career

Jon Christian Thaulow is the head of BAHR’s practice group for Environment & Energy. He advises energy sector clients, providing expertise in relation to electricity markets, renewable energy, infrastructure, as well as oil and gas. He has extensive experience with company law and corporate governance, M&A, regulatory issues relating to the energy sector, contentious matters and anti-corruption issues. He advises several leading energy groups and investors in Norway and internationally. Recent experiences include advising Aker and Aker BP on the acquisition of Lundin Energy Norway AS, and advising Freyr Battery in connection with transactions, corporate governance and project development related matters for its battery business. He has deep experience with a wide range of energy transition projects, such as hydrogen, district heating, carbon capture, wind power, solar power and e-fuels.

BAHR fields an excellent corporate and M&A practice, which is ‘very solution oriented‘ and has particular expertise in private equity transactions as well as sector-specific knowledge in the oil and energy, real estate and infrastructure industries. Practice head Øystein Guvåg specialises in M&A transactions and private equity matters, while Lars Kristian Sande is the deputy head of the practice and an expert in advising both private equity and industrial investors on telecoms and technology transactions. Svein Gerhard Simonnæs, Robin Bakken and Lars Knem Christie are all key contacts for public M&A. BAHR fields a practice with particular expertise in the corporate restructuring market, and the team frequently acts for Norwegian bondholders. Practice head Richard Sjøqvist is an expert in international financing work and restructurings, while Magnus Tønseth specialises in restructurings in the shipping and offshore markets and Jon Christian Thaulow is an insolvency litigator. The group also includes Daniel Jovanovic and Kristine Hjertenæs, who both act in complex multi-jurisdictional restructurings, as well as Steffen Rogstad, who frequently assists with complex negotiations and cross-border matters.

Under the leadership of Morten Smørdal, who has extensive experience in handling transaction and project development-related compliance issues, the ‘incredibly sophisticated‘ team has seen a recent increase in instructions relating to due diligence and the new Norwegian Transparency Act.
