Lawyer Rankings
United States > Dispute resolution > Appellate: courts of appeals / Appellate: supreme courts (states and federal)
Comprised of ‘creative lawyers who focus on solving issues’, King & Spalding LLP houses a comprehensive appellate practice, which has notched up appearances before federal and state appellate courts nationwide, as well as the US Supreme Court. The group’s ability to leverage subject-matter experts from across the wider firm’s regulatory and litigation practices is a significant differentiator and it is particularly experienced in the energy, IP, and life sciences and healthcare spheres. Jeffrey Bucholtz, who is noted for his experience in representing FDA-regulated companies, co-chairs the department together with Ashley Parrish, whose practice has a strong administrative law dimension; both are based in Washington DC. The team also includes Silicon Valley-based Anne Voigts, who recently paired up with Washington DC-based Medicare reimbursement specialist Daniel Hettich to represent Empire Health Foundation before SCOTUS in a case concerning reimbursement rates for hospitals that serve a disproportionate share of indigent patients.
United States > Healthcare > Service providers
King & Spalding LLP continues to advise a diverse clientele on a full range of issues, including white-bagging, alleged overpayments, and M&A. The practice is known for its distinct expertise in bringing Medicare reimbursement litigation against the HHS, and acting for providers in payment disputes with commercial insurance companies. Jim Boswell co-heads the team alongside Mark Polston. Based in Atlanta, Boswell has extensive experience in representing physician groups, while Stephanie Johnson is particularly adept at defending clients in False Claims Act (FCA) investigations. In the Washington DC office, Polston leads the Medicare reimbursement litigation team, advising a number of clinical laboratories and hospitals, while Chris Kenny is particularly adept at advising on payment systems in relation to reimbursements for organ acquisitions. Adam Robison supports the team from Houston with his broad expertise in Medicare payment programs, often taking the lead in Civil Monetary Penalty investigations for nursing home providers and hospitals; and Washington DC’s Daniel Hettich is a Medicare reimbursement specialist.
